Hi folks,
I would like to understand more about headgasket failure. I have known a few folks around here to simply pull the head, replace the gasket, and slap the head back on - and I have wondered why in some cases this works and in others does not.
Does a head ALWAYS need machining after a gasket failure? If this is true, it would indicate to me that the only reason a headgasket fails is because of head warpage. I know that the aluminum/iron combo of the head and block necessitates eventual gasket replacement.
Thanks for your thoughts.
