Service reminder goes from 5k to 3k??? 700

Howdy all,

The car is an 89 740 GLE, 437k on the clock, I bought it in 96 at 150k. Speedo, odometer, trip meter all work perfectly. Original motor and AW-71L.

The service reminder has always come on at 5k intervals until recently when it started coming on at 3k intervals.

Did Volvo in their infinite wisdom decide that 740s with more than 400 thousand miles should have their oil changed more often, or has something gone awry with the counter?

Car is bone stock and I haven't touched the cluster in at least 75k miles.

Any and all thoughts, greatly appreciated,
