After market water temp gauge

Hello, I have a 89 volvo 240, B230F engine. I want to install a new water temp gauge on my car because I dont really trust the one on the dash and also I want to see actual numbers of my water temp. The problem I have is the sending unit has a 1/8" pipe thread on it and I can not find a location to put this in. I want to keep my old water temp gauge working, plus I noticed that the original sending unit does not seal by the thread, it seals by a tapered seat under the threads. So I am wondering if any one has ever mounted a after market water temp gauge and how they over came this obsticle?
