this following my saga of having recently shmooshed my awesome 1986 245 (the Blue Meanie) will be interested in hearing about this new development involving a beautiful green 1993 245 with low miles and all the standard features such as air bag and ABS, as well as the M47 tranny which i am considering purchasing as a parts car gone Frankenstein.
Now the ugly part: it was hit at around 35-40 mph by a small BMW, the impact occurring at the lower quarter of the tailgate, from the middle of the license plate downward to the bumper, partially smashing out the right signal and tail lights. the right quarter panel is a bit messed up as well. It seems like the right side of the car received the most damage, as the right side doors will not open , and there is a buckle visible on the roof above the right rear passenger seat . The car appears to have straight lines but the tailgate won't shut and the left passenger door opens only with some struggle.
The frame most likely received the majority of the force of the BMW and transferred this force all the way up as far as the passenger door, thus preventing it from opening/closing. can someone assume what has happened to the frame, exactly, and is it possible to repair it without the assistance of a frame-straightening body shop? Perhaps I could just do some sledgehammering or chain the bumper to a streetlight and drive forward, or some other sort of DIY correction to get the doors to open and close. Also, if I did that, would I be driving an unsafe car, one whose frame is now no longer as taut and cagelike as it was originally constructed to be?
I have a 1986 245 to use as a parts car for stuff such as tailgate and doors, quarterpanels, bumper and maybe hopefully tail lights. I know that 90-93 had a very specific specs as far as features but they look pretty similar to me.
any and all advice would be MUCH appreciated
THANK YOU!
