just bought a 1989 740 Turbo. Block had blown out freeze plug. I installed a 1994 B230FT with all new gaskets.
1989 740 Turbo will start up for the first time each day, but missfires for a little bit and blows black smoke out the tailpipe. It smooths out after about 10 sec and the black smoke goes away. I can restart the car several times on the cold engine and it will do the same thing.
I can then drive the car and it runs OK. I can get wherever I need to go without issue. Then when I go to restart the car it starts once and dies. And then will not restart. The only way I can get it to restart is to wait about 4 hours+ for the engine to cool down or pull the plugs and get all the extra fuel out of the cyls. The plugs are at this point black and raw fuel can be seen and smelled on the plugs.
I have swapped MAF, temp sensor, fuel pressure regulator, injectors, fuel ecu, and this problem is still there.
When this problem happens I can pull the fuel rail and crank and get fuel injectors to spray. I get spark at all 4 wires with spare test spark plug. Compression is at 150 on all 4 cyls.
