I searched and only found stuff about people taking off their entire steering rack and needing the joint to come off. That's not really what I need.
I need to replace my column u-joint. It's gone bad on every 240 I've ever had, but this is the first time I've actually decided to replace the thing.
I can't seem to find any writeups on the job, nor is there anything in my Bentley. It looks like I may have to lower the rack a bit, or maybe not...not sure how much space there is to maneuver the joint off the splines when it's loose.
The car came from AZ and has only spent a few years in the rust belt, so things aren't bad, rust wise. I think I may be able to knock it loose.
Do I need to move/lower the rack to get this thing off?
Any tips for actually prying it off the column splines?
Is there a good writeup on this job somewhere?
The car is going to be up in the air tommorrow so I can replace my exhaust and some other under-car stuff and I'd like to fix this stupid u-joint because it's groaning and binding is really getting old.
Thanks for the help, as always.
