So.. a friend just stopped by with his '84 wagon on his way to steal some belts off a nearby donor car. Stopped to get my opinion on the process.

One of his alternator belts was completely flat on the inside where it broke. The other was still in place. I thought that odd. And his crank to A/C belt fell off (but didn't break).

So, in a quick attempt to get that belt back on, we thought maybe could get it part way and crank it over. So we disconnected the coil wire. That didn't work, but no worries. Put coil wire back on, car wouldn't start. Checked spark and it was fine.

About this time, the car started dinging... the seatbelt warning bell, but more of just a chirp, and any time the key was in the ignition (even if ignition all the way off). So, pulled the warning bell fuse. But it still chirps when the lights are on (even if the door is closed)... all the time.

Anyhow, back to the no-start issue. Fuel pump definitely running. Pulled the AMM connector, and it started. So swapped out AMM with a known good one and it ran, though poorly. Figuring it maybe flooded, I pulled the main fuel pump fuse in hopes of getting the plugs unfouled. THat worked, and it ran again on all four. But, to my surprise, the car kept running, and would rev fine.. with no main fuel pump.. can these things run only on the prepump?

in any event, just a bunch of stuff to happen in a 15 minute shut down, for seemingly no reason. I've pulled enough coil wires and replaced them to be pretty confident at doing said procedure correctly and completely...

What happened? Could a bad brain or something cause the dinger to chirp, and the AMM to go out due to some errant electrical pulse? Maybe an exorcism is in order? Lotta weirdness all at once...
