terminology - strut and/or shock 200 1988

I went in thinking that the front shock was called a "strut" - I'm looking because mine (shock) is almost blown out.

In reading posts on strut replacement and looking at parts sites the strut appears to be what the shock fits into. So there is no real need to replace the "strut" but only the shock insert.

Anyone have reference to a parts schematic?
