'67 122s Exhaust Smell in Cabin 120-130

I searched archives and couldn't find an answer. When I drive the 122s, I can smell enough exhaust fumes to make me notice whether the windows are up or down. Since the heater has been removed and blocked off by a metal panel (with rubber seal), is it possible this is coming up through the trans tunnel since the shift boot is tattered/missing? Let me know where I should check. Thanks.
