What is involved in removing the intermediate shaft on a 240 b230f?

I went to the Pull and Pay today to get a set of timing belt covers.

I had the opportunity to grab an intermediate shaft with the distributor drive gear on it- someday I am going to get around to dropping a b230ft into a 240.

I took the seal carrier off and pulled the distributor but was only able to extract the shaft about 6" before it hung up.

Does the oil pump have to be removed in order to get the shaft out?

Randy
