So I have removed my transmission, and am in the process of exchanging parts with the old to new transmission, the overdrive refused to kick in-good solenoid just leaky as all hell, could not build enough pressure to activate the tired old Laycock de Normanville The new trans came out of a 164, under all the stuff its the same damn thing, but there is a lot of crud that I have to switch over. Like: trans cover, drive line flange, the reverse switch is different(haven't checked out if I need to swap it or let it ride), and bell housing. I have no guarantees that the new unit will work (junk yard find). If it doesn't work then I will have to rebuild the original unit. I am sure the trans will work as they are a pretty simple devise, its the overdrive that's got my goat. I have a good daily commute and out on the interstate I hit some serious rpms without the overdrive. My 71 142e is geared low enough as it is. Never the less Ive got a core to hold on to and rebuild for the future. Tomorrow I got to hunt down a gasket for the top cover. IPD says that they have none in stock. and it takes 5 days to get one, that's a bummer. Should have looked into it before I started. Anyway its times like this that I realize how much I enjoy my 142e, and am eager to get it back out on the road.
