Since I posted my initial mileage results on my hydrogen supplemented 88 765, I found that I had to run the car in a richer mode around town and then lean it out on the interstate. Since Saturday's test that got me 26.2 mpg, I put 129.3 miles on the car, mostly around town, stop and go with 32 miles of interstate at 65 mph. The fillup today was 4.8 gallons which works out to 25.81 mpg. Next week I will have the larger generator installed and should be able to double the output with a moderate current increase. Heat buildup is an issue with about 130 watts being lost into the water so the next step will be finding a way to circulate the water through a cooler.
Naysayers aside, I think that one of the reasons that many people do not follow through on these hydrogen projects is the enormous cost of building the project properly. I just calculated the material and labor costs for a stainless steel generator and electronics package at over $800.00 for the materials. Several hours of labor on top of that and these things are beyond the reach of most hobbyists.
