960 dead- no elecricity anywhere 900 1995

hi all,
I just purchased my ninth Volvo, a nice 960 wagon with all maintenance history and some green manuals to boot. Well, she has been overheating when idling for a while as in busy traffic. I surmised the fan wasn't operating ( I never heard it)and testied it tonight by jumping wires and it works. I removed the battery to access the fan plug easily and after I put the battery back in there is no power to anywhere. It is like a kill switch has been thrown. I looked through the manual for any clues and nothing. I looked through my green manuals and nothing also. What gives? I expected to reset the radio, but this is rediculous. Any ideas? Yhe battery has 12.8v.
