We spent most of mid-day yesterday attending a couple of fine bluegrass concerts at OKMozart.
(That's right! They try to keep everybody happy.)
Starting around 5 I decided to check ignition tune on the Yellow Peril. Checked point dwell first, seemed OK at about 60°.
Hooked up the vacuum advance hose (my distributor has both advance and retard) and the timing light.
Guess what! Fairly new light, NO FLASH!
Took the other car over to O'Reilly's and got another new one to the tune of $40.
It flashes fine. In fact the flashes showed me at at 500rpm idle the ignition was firing 10° AFTER TDC!
So I advanced it to 20°BTDC and brought the idle up to about 800, which is much more driveable.
Should also give quite a bit snappier performance.
We'll be leaving for south Tulsa (Jackie Cooper Volvo) and the Midsommar meet in a few minutes.
