Urethane Sway Bar End Link Bushings and Tightening Spec

Has anybody else noticed this? I installed urethane end link bushings on my 940's sway bar end links and tightened to the 42mm spec between the washer flats. Non-stop banging from the front end, especially on turns. So as an experiment, I tightened the washers down more. Banging disappeared. I suspect that the stiffer bushings don't mash smoothly like the more elastic rubber bushings and that any extra space causes the sway bar to hit the bushing with some force, then stop abruptly. Anyway, I'd be interested in hearing of other instances.
