oil cooler o-ring weidness 900 1995

this afternoon i set about doing an oil change and fix the leak between oil cooler and filter adapter on my '95 944t. two surprises:

1) the socket size for the oil filter stud is 27mm as opposed to the 29mm in FAQ.

2) there's NO sign of any o-ring between the cooler and adapter. zip, zero, nil. and (get this:) there's no provision for any o-ring to seat on either. the two metal mating surfaces just press against each other. looking closely there's only a VERY shallow groove on the oil cooler surface, barely noticeable when you run the finger across. that groove is not nearly deep enough to hold any o-ring. the surface on the filter adapter is smooth.

all parts are OE volvo: this car has got all its fixes done in a dealership before i bought it.

i ended up cutting a gasket from a rubber gasket stock and used it in place of where a o-ring should've been. so far it holds, but i'm not sure if this is a long term solution. anybody with newer 940T has had this happen to them?
