940 stalling 900

I've seen some of the posts on the subject, but am still stymied. 93, 940 wagon, non turbo. Started stalling a couple days ago. Was after being in hot parking lot all day. After sitting about 10 minutes, it started for a short while then died. After about 15 minutes, it started and got me home. Next morning, started fine, ran a couple errands, stalled once but restarted quickly. Made 10 miles to work on interstate. Died again when exiting the parking lot and would not restart.
I changed the fuel pump relay (white) even though I didn't feel it getting hot during the previous failures, new distributor cap, rotor, plugs. Couldn't do the wires as this is a side-mounted distributor and the wire set I got was for rear mount. Replaces the radio supression relay also, but it's an old one I had, so I can't speak to whether it's good or not. Going to get a new one on web because no one locally stocks one.
I'd killed the battery trying to start, so charged it, car started fine. Tried to start and idle later in the day, it ran less than 3 minutes, then stalled. It restarted, but died quickly, then wouldn't restart. No codes show...1-1-1, but it only idled. (Does it need to run a while or do codes happen quickly?).
Cursory look didn't locate anything obviously loose. Saw in some of the posts about the crank position sensor and will check today, but would appreciate any thoughts on this one before taking to the shop, who'll be quessing too. I've not tried jumping 4 and 6 fuses to see if it might be the fuel pump by default.
Pretty frustrating thus far. Thanks in advance for any ideas.
