Bad in-tank pump ? or blocked sock 700

Ive disconnected the fuel hose between the tank and the main fuel pump, then cranked the engine, shouldnt fuel gush out?...yet if it only drips out, How can the car idle and drive at 90% performance??. The main pump works fine with no noise....and pulling the in-tank fuse with half a tank causes the expected loss of acceleration ...Daryl
