What tranny fluid for my '88 auto 240? 200

I have an '88 240DL w/automatic transmission. It's low on fluid, but I don't have a manual to tell me what kind of fluid to use. I assume it's a three speed? It shifts three times, and the pattern is P-R-N-D-2-1. Also, what's the best way to check the fluid level? There are two markings on the dipstick, both are stated in temperature. Sorry for the dumb questions, but all the other cars I've owned in the past have had manual gearboxes.
