Interested in buying a 240 Wagon 200

Hey guys,
New to the forum, and new to Volvos in general. I've recently fallen in love with the 240 Wagon. I'm about to be in my last year of college and I'd like to treat myself to actually having a car this year. In terms of practicality, I think the 240 wins all. The only thing that I would be weary about was that I have a 640 mile trip to make to get to school at the beginning and end of the year. I like to turn my own wrenches, and know my way around 70's American cars. Would the transition to Volvo be difficult? I'm currently looking at a few prospects in my area (MD). The most promising as of now is an '87 wagon, has little to no rust, 155k, 5 speed manual, and the interior looks immaculate, asking $1900. Number of owners is unknown, as well as any service history. I still need to go look at the car personally, but it seems like an ok deal. I know about the wiring harness deterioration on pre-89 240's as well as the amazing lists of things to check for that I've found while scouring this awesome forum. What do you guys think about the car? Do you think it would be possible to make a 640 mile trip without problems in a 240?
