240 Volvo Turbo, Manual, speeds up and slows down rapidly when in Over Drive 200 200

My 1982 240 with Manual Transmission speeds up and slows down quite rapidly when I shift into Over Drive. I appreciate your thoughts and any tips that can be provided to me.
