1990 740GL shutting down rounding a corner less than 1/2 tank of gas 700 1990

Hi,

My wife and I just bought a well cared for 1990 740GL with 241k on her. Ran great for a few days and then quit after going around a corner. Tried to restart, but no luck. Wife called AAA for a tow, but before they could get there it did start up and we drove home.

After much research on this board (Thanks so much everyone) I decided to replace the fuel pump relay. Since it would run on the old relay, I don't really know if I have solved the problem. I don't hear the intank fuel pump running when I put my ear to the filler neck or when I listen where the pump is inserted into the tank in the trunk area. Does this car just have the 1 fuel pump or does it have two?

Would I be on the right track to be thinking that I need to pull that intank pump and probably replace it? Also, is there anything I should look for when buying the new intank pump? I see see there are performance replacement pumps that seem cheaper than buying an OEM part. Any warnings?

We sure would appreciate any help from other volvo owners. We really like the car and are hoping we can deal with this problem.

Thank you

Rich
