I'm finally installing my lowering springs and bilsteins today. The bilsteins came with the lower A-arm bracket in place and I don't want to mess with swapping on those single-bolt bracket plates that my current lower-a's use.

In case you're unaware, the circa 1965 120s used the old "one bolt one tab" type of design on the anti-sway brackets and lower front shock mounts. These worry me. Read about why over at SW-EM I worry about installation and whether the old-style lower-a's are up to the task.

So here's he issue
I have a set of heavier duty 1971 1800E lower A arms. I extracted the wasted lower a bushings some time ago and have a set of brand-new shiny bushings waiting for installation. I cannot get these dang things in. I've arranged the arm and hand press, braced and supported the arm and bushing but the press just doesn't have the brute force to slide the bushings in. I tried giving the end of the new bushings a very slight chamfer with a grinder. Still no dice. I even tried using my bench vice. Won't budge..

I'm thinking that this will require some heat, cold and lube. Can anyone give me some advice here? This press is the only one I've got access to.



P.S.
If you've tried this before and couldn't find a socket big enough to support the "flare" on the inner part of the lower-a arm, the spacer ring from the belt pulley on the front of the engine is the perfect size (I've got spares so I'm not risking my only one)
