740 wagon tail light - 940 replacement? 700 1989

I bought a left side tail light for my 1989 volvo 740 wagon from e-bay (a used original). It was advertised as fitting 740 and 940. When I received it, I noticed it has “prongs/posts” for two wires on the top light, where my 740 existing light only has one place to connect a wire. Otherwise, the light looks pretty much the same. Someone wrote 940 on the side of the light. Can I use this one? Or will I have to get another? Is it ok to leave the one post “unoccupied?”
