Overdrive Light - On and Off Intermittently 200 1989

My 1989 Volvo 240 overdrive light is coming on and off on it's own. When the light is off, the car will change into that last gear without problems. When the light comes on, then the overdrive doesn't change. Any help in determining why it goes on and off on its own is appreciated!
