In over my head 200

Hi, I think I've gotten myself in over my head.

A few months ago I bought a 1983 Volvo 240 DL from a neighbor for $350. I do not have a license, though I am currently learning how to drive so that I may get one. I do not know how to fix cars, though I am interested in having the learning experience. I'm also a college student, and I make very little. Rarely do I actually have the opportunity to buy the things I want or even need.

The neighbor, Mike, drove me around a few times in the car. Since I didn't have my own he was always the first person I went to to take me places (before Mom moved in to help me pay rent). I always liked his car.

Well, one day he was driving it to work and the engine died. He couldn't start it up, thought it at least turned. Mike says it's probably the fuel pump and ever sense then the car has not been in the road. Shortly after that he was experiencing money trouble, and in desperation, offered the car to me for $350. Knowing the average prices of used cars, knowing that the car was working just a few days prior, and feeling very determined to make some progress toward driving my own - I bought it. We worked out a sort of payment plan, and for the next two months every little bit of cash I had extra went to him until it was paid off.

Soon after I let mom move in to help pay the rent. I lived on my own since I was 18 (23 now), the problem with doing that is I left before knowing how to drive. Finding people to teach you regularly can be difficult. Now I have regular lessons, so I'll at least get a license sometime soon.

Both she and my uncle want me to sell the car to the junkers. Mike says if I do that I can expect no more than $65. I also offered the car back to him for $200, though he chose not to buy it back. I feel like I could probably have some success on craigslist, but before I post the ad for it, I came here to ask.

I am in over my head aren't I? No matter how awesome the 240 is, I am in no position to make repairs on it. Putting this into consideration, it would be wise if I sold it to someone who could do something.

Or.. I could keep it and use it to learn how fix and maintain the car. It is in good cosmetic shape compared to even newer cars that are on the road today. I like how it looks, and I like that it's different from the usual aluminum foil bubble cars. I have put together computers and a bike engine kit, surely I can learn how to fix and maintain a car. And if there is something I'm not ready for, there is always a mechanic I can take it to.

Based on this, what do you think? Should I sell it or keep it?
