Earlier this week I posted a question about my 94 940 wagon which was not staying in overdrive. I asked whether the O/D switch could be replaced and you all assured me that it could be, even providing the part number i needed.

Since then I picked up the car from my mechanic and now understand the logic he is using--basically his logic is that it is faster and cheaper to simply replace the gearshift lever than to remove the lever, disassemble it to replace the switch, reassemble the lever and reinstall. BTW, I had also requested that the disable my non-functioning shift lock override button. He explained that he had to do some disassembly anyway to get to the switch and he could fix both items at the least cost with his recommended approach.

BTW, he cleaned all the connections he could get access to (mainly I suppose just the O/D relay) and the problem seems to be solved. He charged me for the 30 minutes he spent doing that plus lubricating the sunroof.

What say ye now? Reasonable? Without knowing how long it would take to remove and replace the switch i'm inclined to think this is a good approach.
