86 740 in-tank pump LH 700

Hello, a friend of mine has a 86 740, he says the car won't run right if the tank is less than half full. I figured it was the hose that connects the pump to the metal line ... like on my 240.

But looking a the pictures it appears the assembly uses a different setup on the 740's, like a long one piece hose. Can anyone offer some advice on this? Thanks!
