1987 244 Power Steering Right Angled Fitting and Line Disconnected

Hi Everyone,

Long time reader first time poster. Thank you for all your help over the past year. I am now on 240 number 8.

On the steering rack and pinion, there is a small, non- metal tube that connects to the rack via a small right angle plastic fitting.

It appears to be the low pressure return line or some type of pressure equalizing line. It seems to be nylon. It's on the passenger side rolled toward to rear. It looks like the nylon tubing has shrunk in length over time, causing it to pull itself away from the plastic, right angled fitting leading into the rack.

If the tubing is no longer connected, shouldn't the PS fluid be squirting out of the fitting as the wheels are turned? The PS fluid is topped off, the pump spins normally. Logically one would think that PS fluid would be squirting out of the equalizing line but nothing is coming out. Why isn't my rack leaking?

Is the rack clogged up? Can I do something to get the fluid flowing again and then fix the fitting ? Any suggestions? Thanks, Tico

I have a great image of what i am talking about if any one can tell me how to post it I will.
