brake light wiring '87 245 200 1987

I'm reconstructing some aftermarket taillights that have both had meltdowns. I'm wondering if they are wired incorrectly. My red running light wire is attacted to the side terminals. The yellow brake light wire is top or bottom depending on side of car. Is this right?
