I visited a local pick-n-pull today in hopes of finding a smattering of parts for my "new" '91 245. I found nothing in the 200 series, but I did find an 850/V70 with a honking 16-18" puller fan still in place. I pulled that and took it home for $15.00.
My thought here is that I can install it on the backside of my the 1800E radiator mounted in my 68 122S, remove the flex fan, and reduce the power and efficiency lost to the old mechanical fan. Hopefully there is enough clearance for it...
Of course I did not do any real research. This was a frustrating trip and I needed something to justify my trip out there - this seemed like a good candidate. Plus at over $70.00 aftermarket, this is a really good price on a volvo cooling fan. If it works out, I can still keep the car 100% "Volvo"
The fan itself has three wires. Green, Red, and Black. Testing revealed black as ground, green as low-speed and red is high speed. I'd like to wire this up to thermostatic switch (my temp gauge is wildly inaccurate and I can't trust that I could manually switch it on at the proper time.
So, aside from advice on the project, can anyone point me to an older thread or how-to guide on putting a puller fan linked to a thermostatic switch? I've had no luck finding what I want with a search.
