Hi folks. Seems I just cant get my brakes to work as I would like them. My pedal must travel 3/4 or more to get the car to truly come to a stop. At about the 1/3 - 1/2 point I can feel the car slowing a tiny amount, as if some pads somewhere are just beginning to contact rotors. Within the past week I have had a brand new master cylinder and brake pads installed. It was found that both front calipers were binding slightly so I went ahead and replaced them with used calipers from another vehicle. One of my previous calipers also had a shredded dust boot so I intended to replace them anyway. All work except the pads was done by a volvo only shop. The brake pedal used to travel less... say halfway down, before they car really began to stop. Now its far more. I am not leaking brake fluid. The checkvalve on the brake booster is a few months old along with its hose. Its seal is good too. Could this be a dying brake booster? Perhaps the rotors (fronts) are too thin? This seems to make sense (to me) because now that the front pads are further from the rotors, they must travel further to do their job. I am far from a mechanical wizard and my "Blue Bentley Book of Wonders" is my only trainer. Bear in mind that most work cannot be done by me simply because my apartment manager is a rule nazi and working on cars is strictly verboten. Ive already gotten two complaints for air filter and spark plug changing and large fines to match. The brakes were power bled by the shop but they might have borked that job. Any help is greatly appreciated in solving this one. I just want a normal brake pedal. Thanks in advance folks.
