head gasket S90-V90 1997

i have a 97 960/v90 w/ 2.9. the radiator went bad and ran hot for a sec. now it blows white smoke. no signs of water in the oil. besides the head gasket, could the head be warped or cracked? has anyone ran into this with their 2.9 or worked on similar? i read you need a specialty tool for retaining the cam cover when removing head? how much labor am i looking at when doing head gasket? is it worth it? or just start looking for a used engine?
