Ball & Socket worn out on throttle linkage, how to keep it put? 140-160 1969

The ball and socket where the vertical bar from the firewall meets the horizontal bar going to the carb is worn out. If you hit the gas pedal the wrong way or slightly too hard, it just pops off. Is there any way to replace it with something or maybe a modification to keep it attached?
