Rebuild or Remanufacture?

I want to replace front brake calipers because I think one of the pistons on the driver side is hanging up a little bit...that is, not fully retreating into the caliper after braking.

I see several posts about remanufactured calipers...not all of them positive. So how big of a PITA is it to rebuild them? Any special tools?
