Engine Temperature and heat '92 240 200 1992

Gents, this is message 2 of 2 for tonight. You guys are awesome and I really appreciate your input and assistance. Definitely putting in my contribution for all of the $$ this site saves me, plus, it makes the whole garage experience a heck of a lot more fun when you know what you are doing.

Here goes…I put a new heater valve, water pump and thermostat [Vernat – 87 degree, all parts FPC Groton] in my daughter’s ’92, 240 when I retrofitted the AC to 134A. Whole process went awesome, A/C is blowing cold, heater valve went in well [ok, bit of a pistol but it adjusted well.] Test drive was great until.. 1.) Air vent went from blowing COLD A/C to HOT, HOT HEAT. Lasted about 30 sec, then cooled back down to cold. Within an hour it was only blowing HOT air, just about could not keep your fingers in front of the vents it was so hot. Wondered if my valve crapped out on me but I have not pulled it. Looked under the hood…mysteriously found an inline lever, shut off valve. I closed it and I am back to COLD. That’s fine for summer but winter is coming….

Number 2. Temperature gauge rides perfectly at mid level for a good while, then goes up to just under the red on the gauge. Ride for a bit, coast down a hill, cools back down in a few minutes to midlevel and holds. If I drive 55 it tends to stay at the right range. Kick back up to 70 and it runs hot. Running around town it gets hot. I wondered if the radiator was clogged. The Heater valve? Maybe the new one broke. I have the car back tomorrow to work on it for 4 hours before she heads back to school. Any insight would be greatly appreciated! Bernie
