85 turbo wagon
I just replaced the water pump and tackled the timing belt and new tensioner...went pretty smoothly. I brought the crank with the last notch on the pulley to last mark on timing cover, the notch on cam crank lined up..the intermediate sprocket mark was at 3 o'clock. Took the belt off and tensioner put the new one on. At the time I only noticed the double mark on the new belt which I lined up with on the cam pulley. As I am turning the crank by hand I notice two other marks on the belt.....missed them completely. Of course with the different diameter pulleys once you start turning the crank the marks will not line up as before.......Now I'm "skeeered" that I've got them lined up out of whack. My calm reasoning side sez the car ran fine before, the old belt was not broken, nothing really moved when I replaced the belt and everything should be fine. I pulled the dist. cap off and it is pointing to #1 spark plug. My skeeered side sez you dummy when you start this thing up all hell is going to break loose. I am waiting for my radiator and oil cooler to come back from being cleaned is there a way to check this out prior to start up?
