Removing AT Shift Knob 200

The shaft on the AT shifter for my 1989 245 is looking ratty. The chrome plastic has been scraped off and I'd like to do a neat and quick touch-up by dropping a piece of 3/4" black shrink tube over the shaft.

Is it possible (and how hard) to remove the knob on the shifter? If it can be done, what is the procedure?
