87 240 Possible fuel pump problem? 200 1987

I have a 87 240 with 215000 miles. Had car running and warmed upall the way and then shut it off. After about 15 min i tried to start up and it took 3 time of me craking it over for it to start. It was starting for like a second and then dieing. But once it started it was fine. I drove it longer and then shut it off when i got home. I went back out and when i was driving it just died on me and wouldnt go anywhere. I got it started one more time and did this exact same thing to me again. After this the car starts for like a second and then dies right away. It seems as though it gets a squrt of gas and the dies. Dont think its electrical. Replaced the fuel pump relay and got it to start and war up but once i tried to move forward it died on me and started doign the same thing. I was going to buy bother fuel pumps because the car is about 80 miles from me and was going to try to replace the main one and then the pre pump of the one in the gas tank if that didnt work. If anyone thinks its not the fuel pump please let me know. I would love to save the 200 dollars. Otherwise I am not a mechanic but between my dad and I we usually can work things out. Please any ideas on what this could be would be great.

Thanks
Tim
