Changed water pump gasket, now no heat!

With the help of Chris Mullet and spook, today I successfully pulled my water pump to replace a leaking gasket. Now that everything's back together I have no heat.

I took 1.5 gallons of coolant out, but could only get 1 quart back into the reservoir. I ran the engine for a couple of minutes and plenty of air came out of the reservoir. The level dropped and I was able to add another gallon or so. It's topped off now. With the engine running, the temp gauge is where it should be and both the top and bottom radiator hoses are nice and hot. But no heat in the cabin.

Could there be an air blockage somewhere? I'm not sure what else it could be nor what to do if there is an air blockage. Going through previous postings I see lots of talk of a heater control valve. Is it a plastic disk, half white and half black sitting inline on a vacuum hose at the firewall? What do I do with it?

Any help greatly appreciated.

Roger
