Just read Shannon DeWolfe's response to "opinions please" where he referenced a website article describing how to remove the oil trap by first removing the intake manifold. I'm not eager to remove the oil trap with the intake manifold in the way. There's little room to manuever so this idea has me interested as an approach.
A little background. I acquired this '92 245 a year ago with no known history other than a number of owners during its 17 years and 167Kmiles. So, I'm establishing a baseline maintenance. It appears to me that seals are leaking at the intermediate shaft front seal and not sure of the front crank seal. I've already cleaned/replaced parts up to the intake manifold, but want to clean out the oil trap/separator as a final measure before replacing those seals and adding synthetic oil.
Are there any seals/o-rings/hoses associated with the oil trap that I should consider ordering? Anything rubber has hardened and would likely break after 17 years. I'm figuring I will have to order an intake manifold gasket if I decide to go through with this. I looked over Bentley, it has scant information.
Thanks, Mike
