Can a faulty OD cause reverse to slip/not work? 200 1985

I have a M46 transmission.

I had described my problem with my 85 245 (reverse acting like the clutch is not engaging) to a guy at IPD, and he said that it was very similar to the symptoms he was experiencing with his 245.

He said that it wasn't his clutch, because he just replaced it recently. But the vibrations in 3rd, and the revving whenever the gear changes (like it does when you go from 4th to OD), and the fact 1st and 2nd work fine. He thought what it was was the OD was sticking on, and in essence putting OD in every gear.

Does this sound plausible?
