Water Pump leak '84 240 200 1984

Hi,
I have a new water pump that I ordered and installed about 3 months ago. For that whole time, the new pump worked fine, no leaks, no cooling problems. All the sudden, I am doing a very close distance drive and I see I am about to over heat. I check the fluids, I am bone dry in my coolant tank. I look at the water pump and I can see residue (that had never been there before) on the pump under the gasket where the pump and the block meet (its a rubber ring gasket and the block sends water into the pump from directly above the pump). I then took the pump off, looked at the gasket and it still appeared brand new. I then figured that this was just the case of some bolts not being tight enough. I tighten the whole pump as much as I feel comfortable doing without breaking the bolts, reassemble the fan/hood and try pouring water into the coolant tank again. The leak is still there. About 10 seconds after I pour water into the tank, I can see the leak in the same spot leaking legitimately. What could this be? I do not suspect the pump or the gasket or the tightness of the pump to the block. Could I use some liquid gasket to seal the pump to the block? Any suggestions are much appreciated!
Thanks
-Trevor
