Tachometer jumps 700 1989

1989 740 Turbo,

While in park, engine warm, and idling normally. The RPM's are steady but the tachometer jumps every few seconds.

My daughter said it hiccoughed on her today while driving through town. She said the tach was jumping too.

So, what's the most probable cause of this?
