A few month ago i replaced the heater core since it was leaking on my '87 740. I bought some aftermarket brand (forgot what it was) and installed it with the included foam gasket. When i had everything back in place and tried the heater core it heated great, but it made a terrible smell inside the driver compartment.
I hopped it would go away, but after several month it still stinks (well, it was summer and i didn't use it but now winter is coming)
So i assumed it is this stinking foam gasket that makes the terrible smell. I had to take everything apart (now i am a real professional on changing heater cores) and removed the gasket - they had actually fallen off from the heater core and were lying in the air flow "distribution box". Anyway, i got them out, put everything back together, but it still stinks once i turn on the heater in the car - same smell, maybe a little bit less strong.
Anyone any idea how i can get rid of the smell?? I don't think i have any of the foam gasket material still inside my air heater ducts.
Thanks in advance!
