This 740 Wagon has 225K -- the so called radio supression relay (perhaps mislabeled) (which is really the relay that controls the fuel injectors) is most defiently good. I have a new battery fully charged and the alternator is out putting over 13v. My first occurance was a couple of weeks ago when I stoped and turned off the car for a couple of minutes and when I tried to restart it nothing happened (lights were burning brightly just absolutly nothing happened when I turned the key (NOTHING). I had a battery boster in the car which I hooked up and it fired up right away. I scooted off to my trusted mechanic, he put it through the paces and the indication was that all systems were 100% functional. But I decided to take the terminals loose when I got home and thoroughly sand and clean them just in case they was intermetent contact somewhere along the line.
Today I started the car and at first it ran a little rough but smoothed out and seemed to be running quite perfectly --- 1.792 miles down the road (yes just shy of 2 miles) total power was lost and the speed omherter stuck on 0. Pulled over, called AAA. In the meantime jumped through the hoops with first my handy dandy battery boster which would turn the car over but at such a slow rate that it would not start. NOTE -- DURING ALL STAGES THE LIGHT DID NOT DIM -- EXCEPT WHEN THE BOSTER WAS ATTACHED THE ENGINE WOULD NOT TURN OVER AND THERE WAS NO CLICKING NOISE WHATSOEVER. A really nice person stoped while I was waiting for AAA and we tried to jump the car. It would turn over (slowly) but his battery started to smoke so we gave up. The AAA guy shows up and hooks up his much more powerful boster and it fired up instantly. To his credit he ran some diagnostics and all systems indicated all was fine. Nonetheless he put his powerful booster in my passenger seat - pluged it into my lighter -- and followed me the scant 2 miles home. Since I have started and run the car at various intervals with absolutly no sigh of conflict.
Anyway if anyone has any thoughts on anything other than shooting the car would be appreicated.
Regards,
Charlie
