First of all: don't ask me why I did this, because I don't have a logical reason.

When the fuel pump died on my '90 240 wagon, I investigated the options, and instead of a stock pump, chose a TRE Performance TR-200 pump. TRE is apparently a supplier for aftermarket performance parts. Their feedback was spotless, reviews were good.

THE BAD: the pump is advertised as a direct replacement for all EFI Volvos. However, it appears to be a direct replacement for the earlier (83-85?) 240s. Later pumps have a different check valve. So: I removed the check valve and replaced it with a standard fitting. The diameter of the pump is slightly larger, so I had to fiddle with the mounting. The connections are threaded posts, but that was no big deal. The pump is a bit noisier than the stock pump (maybe).

THE GOOD: the car runs great, acceleration is very smooth. All in all, I'm pleased.

REMAINS TO BE SEEN: how will life be without a check valve? I can probably add a universal inline check valve if I had to. Will it have a negative effect on the fuel pressure regualator? Who knows? The existing FPR is of unknown age. If I have to replace it, and a new one dies quickly, I'll buy a Bosch pump and go back to stock.
