The steering action on my wife's '90 745T is getting stiff mostly turing left and I've read the FAQ's about changing out the steering fluid (and lubricating the joints). The FAQ's say to use synthetic ATF. OK. I have some AmsOil synthetic universal ATF sitting round I can use. The owners manual says to use "Type F" fluid. AmsOil universal ATF is applicable for all common applications like Dexron and Mercon. The fine print says that it's not recommended for Type F applications. OK. So now what? My BMW calls for ATF in their power steering system. I've flushed it with AmsOil ATF and it works great! What's so odd about the Volvo system - weird seals? Anyone have any experience with AmsOil ATF? I know Mobil 1 has been mentioned in the FAQs. Is it OK for "Type F" applications?
