240 DL guy with a 740 question 200

Ive only owned 240 DLs (a lot of them). I stay away from the GL's because Ive heard nothing but problems from them.

SOOO my question is: I am considering buying an 1989 Volvo 740 GL cheap and I was wondering what the differences are mechanically/electrically to the 240 DL's and are they as reliable as my old 240 DL's?
