Occasional hard start... 900 1992

My car starts instantly almost all the time.
Once in a blue moon, it will crank for 15-20 seconds
and not start. If I then apply slight pressure to gas pedal,
it will start and be fine for months. I’m curious about this.
What can cause occasional hard start of cold engine???
